Alec is a rational person, a scientist. He knows there are some things you can't change. He's been dealing with his anxiety all his life—and as a werewolf, he can't even rely on pills to help. he has learned to cope with his short-comings. He can't be more outgoing, he can't stop worrying about what other people will think of him, and he can't stop being gay.
But he's smart, smart enough to know he could be worse off. Because even though his parents expect him to marry a woman, at least he's a beta and that means he can take the time to finish his degree before they start asking him questions he can't answer.
He's learned to accept what he can't change and to change what he can. He takes it easy, studies hard, and doesn't get in trouble.
And then he meets an alpha wolf in a club and they hit it off and life is suddenly a lot better than 'okay'.
The more you have, the more you have to lose, but Alec is too smart to get attached to a man who will one day need to mate an omega, isn't he?
