My top five kinky M/M of all times (in no particular order!)

If you've read my books, you might suspect I'm a little kinky... Well, since it's no secret. Here's some authors who hit all the buttons in both my brain and my feels.

captive prince cover, lion icon, brick background
A seditious affair cover, young man leaning over a pillow and looking straight at the camera
Straight shooter cover, hockey garments on purple background

Books & original stories:

A Seditious Affair, by K.J. Charles is book 2 of a trilogy but to be perfectly honest, book 1 is pretty generic and unkinky (a 3 *** because it's still KJ Charles) while book 2 is a fantastic combination of thriller, romance and identity exploration with two main characters who share kinky weekly assignations and slowly come to trust and care for each other without knowing who the other is beyond their class (the working class revolutionary & the conservative gentleman) until their real lives collide and they realise they are beyond different, they are meant to be enemies! What if your duty is to betray the lover that gives you what no else ever could? Straight Shooter, by Heidi Belleau. This one is book 3 and you don't need to but I recommend you read books 1 & 2. As seems to be traditional with series, book 1 is more of a traditional romance but it's still interesting, well-written and does considerably more than boy meets boy, conflict, repeat. Back to "Straight Shooter", we meet a character so deep in denial about his kink (being called gay/humiliated) that he's crossed the line into (verbal) homophobia in previous books and it's in deep trouble with the people he lives and works with. Enter a gay porn star Dom whose porn Mr Straight hockey player 'accidentally' watches and becomes obsessed with... This one went further with kink than I thought I'd be comfortable with--not in a freak-me-out sort of way but in a no-way-that-is-hot--and it is a hard book to read because the main character struggles to accept himself and his needs for most of it. It is also a thoughtful, deep exploration of the lines we draw around ourselves and how they trap us into toxic behaviours and beliefs. Captive Prince, by C.S. Pacat - Ah, what better way to start a book than with your MC stripped naked and prepared to be sold as a slave? Many people are actually put off or entranced by that first scene when truth be told, the Captive Prince trilogy is actually a cock-tease of epic proportions. That said, who said kink required sex? Dominance and submission are to be expected in a book where the MC is sent as a present to his worst enemy, the prince of the kingdom his father was at war with. The same prince whose older brother the MC killed in battle only a few years back, something every character of the enemy kingdom hates him for. Now, the tension begins with a question that will remain unanswered for a while: does the Prince know the MC is actually the real heir to the enemy throne and his brother's killer? But the questions do nothing but pile up after that one because the enemy kingdom is one tricky, back-stabbing place where not just out helpless slave MC but maybe not even the prince can trust anyone fully. The weight of the secrets between them, the fragile trust they build despite those secrets and the unbearable attraction that they cannot give into for reasons that reveal themselves more and more complex as time goes on make this series a page-turner of epic proportions and the UST is off the charts even before Pacat drops all the feelings on you.

The Administration series, by Manna Francis. (Some free) - This series has really weird and frankly subpar covers, but trust me, give it a shot. "Mind Fuck" is available for free here and it's the story of a promiscuous FBI-type investigator who hooks up with one of the owners of the company he's investigating (morals, not high on Toreth's list). Warrick is one kinky guy and Toreth has very few lines he will not cross so unsurprisingly they set the bed on fire from the start... and then things get complicated, for starters, they both have high-pressure jobs they excel at and for another, they live in a dystopian society that allows disturbing levels of corruption. It took me a while to warm up to these guys, but believe me when I tell you it's hot to start with and then they give you a good topping of feelings.

The Boston Verse, by Cordelia Kingsbridge (FREE) - These are a series of shorts following the same two characters, a Harvard freshman Korean-American twink who's been out as a gay for a while but hasn't explored his submissive side in a proper setting and the Latino cop he picks up in a club who introduces him to doing BDSM properly and the local scene. It seems like a simple setup and Riley and Andres seem to think their hookups can stay light on the feelings... but that is very much not the case--regardless of how non-monogamous they are. There's 65k so far and I have probably re-read them all way too often.

Because one must never forget where one comes from!

(Hockey RPS A/B/O, can be read without knowing who the guys are). This fic is to blame for me writing "Cracking Ice" (download a sample), which is to say, I re-read it so much I felt like I either started writing some A/B/O hockey myself or I'd start copying this one by hand like the ancient Romans used to do to learn their Classics). A lot of social issues and also some very hot sex with a lot of powerplay.

Oistros, by Arriviste (Les Miserables A/B/O AU, can be read without knowing who the guys are as long as you know they are revolutionaries) - The omega character here goes into heat and decides to ask the unattached alpha in his friend group for his assistance--only obviously the alpha is unattached because he's totally, hopelessly in love with him. You wanted hot angst? Have like 10 chapters with a thriller plot interrupting the alternating UST and URT.

Obviously A/B/O and dominance/submission are an amazing, shiny trope for me no matter who is writing it. But you will notice there's no mpreg in my list! I'm a bit special about it, for me mpreg is just another layer of angst*, which is definitely a pattern one sees in fandom. In published books, mpreg is dominated by sweet stories about making a family. Maybe that's why when I write lighter/fluffier books like Omega on a mission and Omega Under The Moon and Runt of the Litter I have to hold back on the mpreg to keep things romantic and happy.

*YMMV!

So what are your favourite kinky books? Any recommendations? Any variety of LGBTQA+ is good for me :)
