The Ever Returning Ray

Some characters just won't leave... Ray is one of them.

Raymond Halley first made it to the world in Omega for the Pack, where his fate was sealed when he became an omega and he was assigned five alphas to mate with to form a new pack. One of them was his best friend, Josh Jeremiah.

But WAIT!

That's not what happens here. Ray's pain was my pain and I wanted to give him a chance at something better, so now, 11 years after he was born, I time travelled to before he presented as an omega, before his best friend became an alpha and their bond was contaminated by that difference...

When they were still too young men with their whole lives ahead of them and a friendship that verged on obsession. And I focused on the one thing that sustained Ray in his darkest moments: His art.

"Drawn to You" is an unapologetic pun on the fact that Ray draws the world to understand it, to process it, to possess it and honour it. And that means he draws Josh a lot.

And Josh, oh boy. Compared to Ray's introverted angst, his best friend looks like a chill boy-next-door type. But there is a reason they are best friends. Behind the friendly helpful facade, Josh is just as desperate to prove himself worthy of love, eager to earn his friend's devotion and feeling like he has to work for it constantly. So, also a (very pretty) hot mess.

Then Josh finds the drawings. The ones Ray has been hiding because he is afraid of what they say about him. Amongst those very revealing illustrations, there is one that doesn't fit: it's of Josh himself, staring openly at the artist, soul bare for the world to see.

This 170,000 novel is the story of how art opens our hearts and lets others see the parts of ourselves we are afraid are too dark to love. This is my heart open to you, and I hope you will see something beautiful there.

Includes: angst (and more angst), sweet friendship offerings, possessiveness (addressed as sometimes problematic, sometimes loving), werewolf instincts and human desires intermingling, pack shenanigans and support, good parenting, complicated relationships, past!parent death, revealing art.

Does not include: mpreg. Visit Original!Ray in Omega for the Pack for that ;)

Drawn to You: 73: Josh

“You got a minute?” Ray asked him in the morning. He was sitting down on his own bed in the ratty t-shirt he slept in at home, so the formality was all the more disconcerting.

“Let’s sneak into your room,” he told Josh when it got too chilly outside.
